There are three awards being offered for the 2021 APS Seventeenth International Conference on Endothelin (ET-17).

  • Martin Frank Diversity Conference Support Award

Criteria and Important Award Application Instructions

Abstract-based Trainee Awards for Postdoctoral and Graduate Students:

To encourage the participation of young scientists in training, awards will be granted to trainees for best abstract submission. The awards will consist of a cash prize and a certificate.

Award applicants will be judged prior to and during the conference. Winners will be announced during one of the conference’s sessions, where they will receive recognition from the conference organizers. A certificate will follow after the conference.

To be considered for an award the candidate must:

  • be a postdoctoral fellow within five years of receiving their postdoctoral degree or a graduate student,
  • be the first author on the abstract,
  • be the presenting author,
  • submit an abstract for the conference via the online abstract submission site,
  • designate during the abstract submission process that you would like to be considered for the Abstract-based Trainee Award (if eligible), and
  • apply and complete the award application on the APS Awards webpage by following the link that will be provided in the submission site after your submission has been has been finalized and submitted.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted or reviewed.

Martin Frank Diversity Conference Support Award

APS offers travel awards for those who traditionally have been underrepresented in science to attend the 2021 APS Seventeenth International Conference on Endothelin (ET-17) virtual conference.

The Martin Frank Diversity Travel Awards—formerly known as the APS Minority Travel Fellowship Awards—are designed to increase active participation in and networking at APS scientific conferences among trainees and early-career faculty from groups underrepresented in the physiological sciences.

Criteria

  • Graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and early-career faculty (recently transitioned/within five years of obtaining a PhD) from underrepresented racial or ethnic backgrounds; (following the National Institutes of Health Guidelines) and/or with disabilities.
  • Applicants must be attending U.S. institutions and conducting research within the 50 states or U.S. territories. Porter Physiology Development Fellows are highly encouraged to apply.

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Awardees will receive reimbursement for registration to attend the virtual conference.

Dependent Conference Support Travel Award

The APS Dependent Support Travel Award is a reimbursable allowance of up to $500 for the 2021 APS Seventeenth International Conference on Endothelin (ET-17) virtual conference. Funds may not be used for ongoing dependent care expenses or the costs associated with transporting dependents to the meeting. All awardees must have a receipt for reimbursement request.

Eligibility

  • Must be an APS member in good standing at the time of application (international members are eligible).
  • Applicant must submit an abstract as first/senior author to APS by the abstract submission deadline (abstract ID number is required).
  • Only one APS Dependent Support Travel Award may be awarded per family.
  • Priority will be given to trainees and early-career scientists (must not be above the rank of assistant professor or equivalent in government, industry or medicine).
  • Applicant must be a primary caregiver.
  • Submissions to late-breaking abstracts do not apply.

Criteria

Applications will be scored based on a one-page summary describing how this travel award will be of benefit. Please include:

  • the number of dependents,
  • number of hours needed,
  • type of funding scenario support requested, and
  • estimated cost.

Eligible Funding Scenarios

  • Dependent(s) care provider travels to meeting location to care for dependent.
  • Dependents travel to caregiver outside of home community.
  • Care provider travels to applicant’s home.
  • Additional hours at applicant’s home for care provider.

Funding may NOT be applied to the following:

  • ongoing dependent care an attendee would normally incur (e.g.,. daycare, before/after school care),
  • costs of dependent(s) travel to the meeting location, and
  • any of the attendee’s expenses.

International Abstract-based Trainee Award for Postdoctoral and Graduate Students

To encourage the participation of young international scientists or those who are not permanent residents of the USA, awards will be granted to trainees for meritorious abstract submissions/poster presentations. The awards will consist of a cash prize and a certificate.

Award applicants will be judged prior to and during the conference. Winners will be announced during one of the conference’s sessions, where they will receive recognition from the conference organizers. A certificate will follow after the conference.

To be considered for an award the candidate must:

  • be a postdoctoral fellow within five years of receiving their postdoctoral degree, a graduate student, a medical student, or an undergraduate student
  • be the first author on the abstract,
  • be the presenting author,
  • submit an abstract for the conference via the online abstract submission site,
  • indicate that you want to apply for the award, select “International Trainee Abstract Award” in the drop down menu at the time of submission.
