University of California, San Francisco
Keynote Presentation: How Brain-body Crosstalk Sculpts Facets of Female Physiology
Location: Baltimore Convention Center

Holly A. Ingraham, PhD, is an APS member and the 2024 recipient of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology Excellence in Science Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes her pioneering work. Ingraham’s research focuses on sex differences and hormone-responsive nodes in the brain and peripheral tissues that maintain metabolic, skeletal, and gut physiology in females to address the significant gaps in women's health.

Through question-driven basic science, Ingraham aims to elucidate the molecular underpinnings of adaptive responses in female physiology across the lifespan to understand better how hormonal fluctuations during the reproductive and post-reproductive periods affect females. She has made fundamental contributions to the field of hormone signaling and sex-dependent physiological regulatory mechanisms.

Her most recent high-impact studies have been highlighted in the New York Times Science Section and the National Institute of Health (NIH) Director’s Blog. Ingraham has chaired and served on scores of NIH and other scientific review panels. She also serves on several scientific advisory boards and is a founder of a new biotech venture to improve women’s health.

In addition to numerous scientific awards, Ingraham is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Science. She also directs the UCSF NIGMS-funded Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award Program to create opportunities for Postdoctoral Scholars and build diversity in the nation's biomedical workforce and faculty. She earned her PhD from the University of California, San Diego.

Don’t miss Ingraham, who will speak at 10:30 a.m. EDT on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the closing session of the 2025 American Physiology Summit.
