Award Description
The Translational Research Award recognizes trainees at both the pre-doctoral and postdoctoral educational levels whose area of experimental research is translatable to industry applications, such as:
- Treatment development or improvement.
- Diagnosis.
- Mechanism of action.
- Health and wellness.
These awards are presented at the American Physiology Summit, which the awardee must attend. The award cannot be delayed and is contingent upon funding. APS membership is not required for applicants.
Eligibility
The applicant must:
- Applicants must be a U.S. graduate student or equivalent holding a bachelor’s degree.
- Be enrolled in subsequent training.
- Have completed a program leading to a doctorate degree.
- Have a sponsor who is a regular APS member. 
Criteria
The application package includes:
- A copy of their first author's abstract submitted to the Summit.
- One-page essay on project, contribution, and career goals.
Completed applications will be reviewed by members of the Translational Award Review Committee.
Applications will be evaluated on:
- The first-author meeting abstract.
- Supplementary description of the translation nature of their project and its potential use for future research, their contribution to the work and their career goals (one page maximum).

Awardees are allowed to receive the Translation Research Award only once as a pre-doctoral student and once as a postdoctoral fellow.
Applications are only accepted via online submission.
Award at a Glance
Award amount: Reimbursement of the early registration fee to the American Physiology Summit, and $500 (predoctoral) or $800 (postdoctoral Award)
