Award Description

The American Physiological Society (APS) and the Goyal Family Charitable Foundation (GFCF) share the mission of advancing the study of gastrointestinal and liver physiology through the exchange of scientific ideas and the creation career development programs. Thanks to a grant from the GFCF and the Raj and Prem Goyal Fund, the Gastrointestinal & Liver (GIL) Physiology Section is pleased to offer the Raj and Prem Goyal Lectureship in Pathophysiology of Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease.  

This award, selected by the GIL Section Award Committee, recognizes exemplary contributions to the research of physiology and understanding the mechanisms and treatment of gastrointestinal and liver diseases. 

Eligibility

The applicants must be:

  • An APS member in good standing. 
  • A member of the GIL Section. 
  • A mid-career professional (e.g., associate professor level or within three years post-promotion to full professor). 

Past nominees are eligible to be considered, but individuals can only be bestowed the Raj and Prem Goyal Lectureship in Pathophysiology of Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease once.

Criteria

This award is by nomination only. Self-nominations are not permitted. The nomination package includes: 

  • Nominee's curriculum vitae.
  • Nomination letter from an APS member.

Applications with excess or incomplete materials will not be considered. The awardee is expected to attend the American Physiology Summit, will be recognized at the GIL Section banquet and business meeting, and is expected to deliver a lecture at the Summit or via webinar.

Award at a Glance

Award amount: $1,000, plus reimbursement of the early registration fee to the American Physiology Summit and complimentary admission to the GIL Section banquet.
