The American Physiological Society (APS) Endocrinology & Metabolism (E&M) Section New Investigator Award recognizes an outstanding investigator in the early stages of their career. Candidates should be investigators who have made meritorious contributions to the area represented by the E&M Section.
Eligibility
The nominee must:
- Be an APS member in good standing with a primary affiliation in the E&M Section.
- Should not hold a rank above assistant professor or an equivalent research position at an academic institution or in industry (e.g., scientist, senior scientist, research investigator).
Criteria
The award is by nomination only. Self-nominations are not permitted. The application package includes:
- The nominee's curriculum vitae.
- Two nomination letters.
- Up to three publication reprints.
Applications with excess or incomplete materials, such as additional letters beyond those required or a blank curriculum vitae, will be excluded from evaluation.
Candidates will be judged on their publications, how the publications relate to the E&M Section, and evidence for independence and promise (e.g., grant funding, peer review activities).
The recipient must attend the American Physiology Summit, present their work in an oral session at the Endocrinology & Metabolism Awardee Session, and attend the Section’s Business Meeting and Awards Reception.
The awardee will also be invited to submit a brief review article on the area of research interest to the American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism for publication within one year of receiving the award.
Applications are only accepted via online submission.
