The Physiology in Perspective Walter B. Cannon Award Lectureship is awarded to an APS member who is an outstanding physiological scientist. The awardee selected by the APS Executive Committee is recognized for their original lifetime achievements in the field of physiology.

The recipient presents a "Physiology in Perspective" lecture at the American Physiological Summit that addresses Cannon's concepts of "The Wisdom of the Body." The presentation may be considered for publication in the Society journal of the awardees choosing.

The Cannon awardee will receive their award and participate in special events at the Summit. One of the highlighted events is the Cannon poster session. The Cannon recipient will select 10 posters of abstracts submitted in their research field to receive poster awards. The Cannon awardee will organize and chair a virtual symposium related to the research, to be presented after the annual meeting.

APS membership is invited to submit nominations for the Cannon Award via online submission. You must be nominated for this award. You can not self apply. 


Eligibility

The nominee must:

  • Be an APS members.
Criteria

The award is by nomination only. The application package includes:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • One letter detailing the nominee's current position of employment and contributions to the field 

Nominations are only accepted via online submission.

Award at a Glance

Award amount: $4,000 honorarium, plus expenses incurred (up to $2500) in association with participation at the American Physiology Summit
