Award Description
The Anne R. Crecelius High Impact Scholar Award is given to an APS member who demonstrates sustained high quality of work, consistency in effort and a commitment to advancing the physiology educator community. Administered by the APS Center for Physiology Education, the awardee will collaborate with the Center to complete a large, long-term project and to mentor physiology educators.
About Anne Crecelius
Anne R. Crecelius (1985–2023), a longtime APS member, was a tireless leader, mentor, researcher and educator. She was active in the Society, having served on committees, participated in PhUn Week and as an inaugural Center for Physiology Education board member. Crecelius committed herself to high-impact initiatives that required long-term and sustained effort. This award recognizes the grit, resolve and “say yes” mentality that she embodied.
Eligibility
The applicant must:
- be an APS member in good standing for a minimum of two years at the time of application,
- have demonstrated sustained commitment to long-term projects in education, and
- strongly encouraged to attend the APS educator meeting prior to the American Physiology Summit.
Criteria
The application package includes:
- a detailed curriculum vitae that includes documented long-term education projects;
- a letter of recommendation from a department chair, project lead under which a long-term project was completed or an equivalent person who can speak to sustain commitment and excellence on a current or past project; and
- a statement that:
- describes a long-term project that the applicant has been responsible for including details of their responsibilities in bringing the project to a successful conclusion; and
- explains how the project will benefit the applicant’s career (e.g., CV, networking, opportunities to present, manuscript, research opportunities).
Awardee expectations include:
- selecting a high-impact project from options proposed by the Center for Physiology Education Advisory Board,
- meeting mutually agreed-upon benchmarks and deliverables for accomplishing the project,
- contributing to related events and mentoring in support of the physiology educator community,
- completing a short survey on the outcomes of their project within three to five years after its completion, and
- acknowledging receipt of the award in any publications arising from the Crecelius Award.
