Solomon Aaron Berson (1918–1972) was an American physician and scientist whose discoveries led to major advances in clinical biochemistry. This award is presented, in his honor, to a distinguished scientist for their outstanding contributions to endocrinology and metabolism physiology research.

John Speakman, PhD, is a professor at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology in China, and at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. He has been working on energy balance and obesity—specifically theoretical models of energy balance—for more than 40 years. Speakman’s recent work has focused on using the mouse as a model to understand macronutrient effects on energy balance, and the impacts of calorie restriction.

Licy L. Yanes Cardozo, MD, is an associate professor of the Departments of Medicine (Endocrinology) and Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). She is a practicing endocrinologist engaged in basic and clinical research. Yanes Cardozo’s basic, translational and clinical research focuses on whether and how excess androgens mediate cardiometabolic complications in women. She is the director of the Women’s Health Research Center, the research director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program and the medical director of the PCOS Clinic at UMMC. Yanes Cardozo is the chair of the APS Endocrinology & Metabolism Section.
