The goals of the Gastrointestinal and Liver (GI & Liver) Section are to enhance and promote innovative discoveries in physiology and pathophysiology and to advance our understanding from the molecular to the organ level. To achieve these goals, we provide a forum for the dissemination of research findings and recognize scientific excellence at all career levels. The GI & Liver Section offers an environment to enhance interaction among GI & Liver physiologists and other disciplines to foster an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to scientific discovery.

Karen Edelblum

"I began my affiliation with the American Physiological Society (APS) Gastrointestinal & Liver (GIL) Section as a postdoctoral fellow in 2010 when I served as the trainee representative on the GIL Steering Committee. Since then, I have held multiple roles on the committee, including councilor and banquet coordinator, Programming Committee co-chair and Programming Committee chair. I have also served on the Women in Physiology Committee and Program Working Group. Whereas other societies focusing on GI and liver physiology are more clinically focused, the APS GIL Section has become my scientific home and provides an excellent opportunity for our membership, trainees and experienced researchers alike to engage in committee service. As chair of the GI & Liver Section, I look forward to the opportunity to strengthen and grow our research community."
